Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?
Dentures are intended to help patients who are missing several or even all of their teeth. For patients dealing with a single or small number of absent teeth, a dental bridge may be a better option. It’s also important that a patient’s mouth is generally healthy before receiving a denture to avoid infections and swelling that could negatively affect the fit. We’ll talk about all of this and how we can get you ready for your new teeth at a one-on-one consultation.
Types of Dentures
The right denture for one patient may not be the right one for you. Tooth loss is quite variable, which is why we offer multiple types of prosthetics designed to suit every situation.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture is meant to fit between the remaining natural teeth and fill gaps like the final piece of a puzzle. The prosthetic teeth are held together with an underlying metal structure (which is hidden by material that looks like gum tissue), and small clasps loop around the nearby remaining teeth to securely snap them into place.
Full Dentures
Dentures can restore an entire row of teeth at once by sitting directly on the gums. In addition to making chewing and speaking easier, full dentures increase the height of the face, enhancing someone’s appearance from all angles.
Dental Implant Dentures
Dental implant dentures look like traditional ones at a glance, but instead of just sitting on top of the gums, they are secured to the jaw using small titanium posts. These essentially serve as new tooth roots, which make the teeth extremely stable while also preventing the bone loss that usually follows tooth loss.
